In order to reduce the extent of hydroxide and carbonate formation on (Mg, Ca)O protective layer during sealing step, panels were sealed while Ar‐5H 2 gas was flown between front and rear plates assembled. The gas was supplied up to a temperature below sealing took place. This processing scheme lowered firing and sustaining voltages of the panels significantly, demonstrating a practical way to seal the panel.
