Influences on the development of children's career aspirations are discussed from converging theoretical viewpoints: the literature that directly addresses children's career notions and the unique perspective of the literature on the psychological impact on the young of the nuclear threat. The basic terminologies of two prominent stage theories of career development are presented as a conceptual link between these normally disparate areas of inquiry. It is suggested that the nuclear threat literature reveals pertinent variables for the study of children's career aspirations and offers challenging implications for career guidance practice.
