ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate utilisation of the NSW Medicines Information Centre and other drug information services, and to determine if on‐site drug information resources are meeting the needs of pharmacists in NSW public hospitals. Method A questionnaire was formulated following a literature review and distributed to all NSW public hospital pharmacies. The survey inquired on recent use of the NSW Medicines Information Centre's services, if services were meeting needs, and the use of drug information resources apart from those available on‐site . Results 57% of hospital pharmacies in NSW completed the survey. 63% of pharmacists felt that their drug information needs were not met by resources accessible on‐site . 80% of rural hospital pharmacists noted that on‐site resources did not meet their drug information needs. Conclusion Despite the increase in access to electronic drug information resources, NSW public hospital pharmacists rely on external drug information services (such as the NSW Medicines Information Centre) to meet their needs.
