A simple and inexpensive six‐line microbrewery is described, with an outline of methods of operation and indications of the strengths and weaknesses of the design. The scale was chosen such that 500 g of grist could be used, giving around 3·6 litres of hopped wort. Replicated worts and beers prepared simultaneously on the six‐lines are closely similar in their properties. Such experimental brews can be evaluated in statistical terms with a high degree of confidence.
