The refractometer is being successfully employed for the routine determination of hot and cold water extracts obtained by The Institute of Brewing Recommended Methods of Analysis and for hot water extracts derived from The E.B.C. Standard Methods of Analysis. In general, results have appeared to be more reliable than those obtained by using the specific gravity bottle and the method has proved to be more convenient.
