Investigations on the effects of respiratory uncouplers, auxins and auxin‐antagonists on the germination of barley do not lend support to the theory that water‐sensitivity is the result of the accumulation of a supra‐optimal quantity of indoleacetic acid which in turn uncouples respiration.
