Magnesium ion catalysed isomerization of humulone leads to a mixture of two stereo‐isomeric isohumulones without detectable formation of side‐products or degradation products. Catalytically‐produced isohumulone consists of 45 ± 4% cisisohumulone (colourless crystals m.p. 64° C; [α] 20 D =‐8·9°) and of 55 ± 4% trans‐isohumulone (yellow oil).
