Analysis of the results of a questionnaire completed by occupants of 168 premises in Britain which deal with grain in bulk revealed that over 50% were currently suffering from, or had recently suffered from, insect infestation; about 80% of these infestations were established before 1960. There was no evidence of variation in geographical distribution of infestation rates, though variation in distribution of the individual pests (such as Khapra beetle) may occur. The results are in general agreement with those of earlier small‐scale local surveys. Malathion appears to be, rightly, the most popular chemical means of controlling infestation.
