The malting behaviour of normal husked barley with and without gibberellic acid treatment was compared with the behaviour of dehusked grain treated similarly and with dehusked embryo‐less grain treated with two levels of gibberellic acid. Standard methods of malt analysis were applied to samples of malt, removed for kilning, on each of the 6 days of germination. The possibility of malting embryo‐less barley, forecast by other authors, was confirmed. Absence of the embryo resulted in enhanced effectiveness of gibberellic acid treatment.
