In order to avoid the increasing confusion of Flavobacterium proteus with other members of the genus, in which it is out of place, it is proposed to create a new genus Obesumbacterium , and to place the former F. proteus therein as sole species, the new systematic name for the common “short fat rods” of brewer's yeast thus being Obesumbacterium proteus (Shimwell & Grimes) Shimwell.
