Dependence of the brewing industry on mechanical handling is increasing, because of economic reasons and the difficulty of securing the right type of labour. However, because of its expense, careful scrutiny must be made of each individual problem before deciding to adopt mechanization. The choice of installation varies with the type of material to be handled, and typical installations are described for the brewhouse, boiler house, cask handling and washing, bottle store and loading.
