Compounds representing a new group of hop bitter substances, which have been named the hulupones, have been isolated. The properties of these compounds have been determined by physico‐chemical methods and their behaviour on hydrogenation and oxidation has been studied. The hulupones show several features in common with the humulones and lupulones but each contains a five‐membered ring. The proposed structural formulae show them to be closely related to oxyhumullnic acid.
