Problems involved in meeting process steam requirements are discussed in detail, with special reference to the efficient use of Lancashire and Economic boilers and of high efficiency self‐contained boiler plant. Among points discussed are the provision of mechanical draught, the siting and construction of chimneys, the relative merits and demerits of oil and coal firing and the operation of these systems, flue‐ash blowing, coal handling and feed‐water supply. The value of adequate instrumentation is stressed.
