Cohumulone occurs in considerable quantity in some hop varieties. The information at present available concerning this substance is reviewed and it is shown that it is a lower homologue of humulone having the formula C 20 HO 5 , having an iso butyryl side‐chain in place of the iso valeryl side‐chain of humulone. The contribution of cohumulone to the bittering of beer is discussed.
