Manganese is determined in the sulphuric acid residue obtained after wet oxidation of beer or brewing materials as described in a previous paper (this Journal , 1951, 363). The manganese present in this residue is oxidized to permanganic acid by heating with potassium periodate, and the pink colour is evaluated photometrically or by visual comparison with standard manganese solutions.
