The construction and the mode of operation of belt, worm and chain conveyors are reviewed, the advantages and disadvantages of the various systems as applied to barley and malt being specially noted. Pneumatic systems of conveying and the equipment involved therein are described in some detail, particular attention being given to factors which enhance efficiency of operation. The physical principles involved in grain drying are discussed from the point of view of the rôle of temperature in relation to the moisture interchange between grain and air, special reference being made to the principle of drying in ventilated bins and to the importance of careful temperature control.
