The organization and aims of the E.B.C. are briefly outlined, and the topics discussed at the Lucerne Congress, 1949, are presented in the form of short abstracts of the papers read. These topics fall under the headings: (a) proteins in brewing; (b) the production of sterile beer by means other than pasteurization; (c) the report of the Barley Committee. Three Committees now operate under the E.B.C., viz . (a) Barley Committee, to continue work already initiated; (b) Analysis Committee, to co‐ordinate methods of analysis in the participating countries; (c) Terminology Committee, to consider the nomenclature for protein fractions and protein degradation products encountered in malting and brewing.
