Since the first appearance in 1924 of the Downy Mildew of the Hop ( Pseudoperonospora Humuli (Miy. et Tak.) Wils.) in hop gardens in this country, the authors have recorded annually their obser vations on the incidence of this disease at home and abroad ( this Journ ., 1930, 66). In the wet year of 1927 there was an epidemic outbreak of Hop Downy Mildew in several counties in England—an occurrence unfortunately repeated in the past wet season of 1930. The present article provides, under separate headings, a description of the course of events, and touches on certain new aspects of the relation of the Downy Mildew to hop‐growing in England and elsewhere.
