Summary A lectotype for Clematis orientalis L. has been designated: “ Flammula scandens, apii folio glauco ”. Dill. Elth. 144, t. 119, f. 145 (1732). The typotype has been based on specimen 2868 of the Dillenian Herbarium of the Hortus Elthamensis (OXF). We consider the sources of the Euphrates and the surroundings of Erzurum (Turkey) as the type locality of this species. A description, based on specimens collected from natural sites, is presented.
