MacKenzie, I. Z. and Hillier, K. (Nuffield Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, England). Delayed morbidity following prostaglandin‐induced abortion . Int J Gynaecol Obstet 13 : 209–214, 1975. Delayed morbidity in 307 patients who had a prostaglandin‐induced abortion 18 months or more previously, has been assessed. Two hundred and sixty‐six replies to questionnaires sent to patients and a further 41 from their general practitioners were analysed to assess reproductive performance and general health subsequent to abortion. Eleven patients had depressive illness including one who attempted suicide shortly after abortion, but no other significant interim illnesses were reported. Menstrual symptoms were infrequent. Fifty‐three pregnancies in 46 of the 307 patients have subsequently occurred, eight resulting in spontaneous abortion, 13 in a further therapeutic abortion and one ectopic pregnancy. In the term pregnancies morbidity was low. The usage of adequate contraception at the time of follow‐up was found to be 80.5% compared with only 33.8% before abortion.
