The pressures of urban growth have led to renewed interest in the establishment of new towns and cities in Australia. This paper presents the results of a recent survey of resident satisfaction in Kwinana New Town, Western Australia. The findings suggest that many early sources of dissatisfaction have been overcome and that many residents prefer to live in a planned new town rather than in a conventional suburb. However, provision of entertainment facilities for teenagers is still inadequate, a problem exacerbated by a lack of public transport. The rate of population turnover appears to be relatively high and recent immigrants form a substantial proportion of the population.
