During the past five years increased concern about family planning has appeared in many English‐speaking countries. National policies in certain countries lately have included family planning. Social workers have not been in the forefront of active, programmes in this field. The role of social work in the area of family planning is discussed, and the major indications for family planning in our society are briefly reviewed.
