Spectrographic determinations of the minor element content of prehistoric obsidian artifacts are compared with those of natural glasses from known volcanic sources in the Territory of Papua New Guinea. Watom Island artifacts are shown to be made from Talasea obsidian and artifacts found on the Trobriand Islands and at Collingwood Bay from Fergusson Island obsidian. The methods and results are discussed.
