Clinical training and education are of central importance to both the specialty of counselor education and the profession of counseling. Unfortunately, counselor educators may be inadvertently contributing to the well‐known and well‐documented gap between research and practice. This reaction to S. C. Whiston and K. J. Coker (2000) discusses the research–training gap in counselor education and proposes an evidence‐based model of clinical training.
