In response to the Vail, Colorado conference stance on providing cross‐cultural psychotherapy and Division 17's recommended competencies for cross‐cultural counselors, the author and a colleague developed an 8‐week experiential program designed to raise the cultural awareness of a group of psychotherapists at a small women's college. This article attempts to formulate some theories about the process of raising cultural awareness among psychotherapists, identify important themes or issues that should be addressed in this type of training, and evaluate the feasibility of a short experiential training program in preparing culturally effective psychotherapists and counselors.
