Counselor trainees' perceptions of inhibition while they were conducting interviews in differently monitored situations (audio‐, video‐, nonmonitor) were studied. The results clearly indicate that beginning counselors perceive monitoring to have an inhibiting effect upon their interview performance. Audio‐monitoring was perceived as less inhibiting than video‐monitoring. Implications concerning uses of video‐monitoring in practicum situations are discussed.
