Those of us who are children of the '60s remember well the drinking water regulatory binge of the 1980s and 1990s. Now, things are comparatively quiet on the regulatory front at the national level. True, many water utilities are still struggling to catch up with the avalanche of water regulations from the late 1990s. When a new drinking water regulation is adopted, a lot of money is spent and impacts abound. New regulations at the national level are relatively rare these days, with perchlorate perhaps being an upcoming exception.
