Watersheds ‐ nature's infrastructure and a key component in determining a safe water supply ‐ need to be protected and managed. Citing a 2009 report by the Aspen Institute, the author suggests that a watershed's natural environment requires just as much attention from the water industry as it gives to utilities' physical assets. AWWA is working with the US Endowment for Forestry and Communities in the interest of focusing on watershed and forest management.
