In 1914, in an effort to further local communication and knowledge sharing, AWWA changed its constitution to allow for the formation of local sections. At a meeting held in the Manhattan Hotel in New York City Jan. 20, 1914, the New York Section became the first of what would eventually be 43 North American sections.
