Understanding why water is lost from a water system is central to operating a well‐managed utility. Although water loss has always been important, it does not always get the focused attention it should. At a very basic level, paying attention to water loss is now more critical than ever. As our infrastructure continues to age, it is inevitable that more and more water will be lost through breaks and leaks.
