Since ancient times, designers, builders, and operators of water systems have sought the highest‐quality source water to deliver to the public. In this issue, Lorenz notes that Roman engineers searched for groundwater springs to feed the aqueducts they built because they knew their quality was higher than that found in surface supplies.
