This article discusses the experience that the city of Gastonia (North Carolina) Water Supply and Treatment Division (WSTD) had when it started using Hach's Water Information Management Solution (WIMS) to save energy and run the plant more efficiently. In addition, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has designated the plant as ISO 14001‐certified, a classification that addresses various aspects of environmental management and requires additional data collection and reporting. The new information management program has helped operators, division managers, and even city council members ‐ all of whom depend on easily accessible data to make budgets and predict the availability of resources.
