This article discusses an environmentally friendly and energy‐independent mobile water treatment plant developed by Swiss‐based Trunz Water systems. The self‐contained units remove viruses and bacteria from polluted freshwater sources, and some systems are capable of purifying brackish water and seawater using a reverse osmosis system. The units come with a borehole pump, solar racks, optional wind generator, and an automatic backflush system. A demonstration project for the unit was recently carried out at an orphanage in Diani, Kenya.
