This article discusses the “Silver Tsunami“”, or the coming retirement exodus of the baby‐boomer generation of water professionals. It also mentions that some utility members are not renewing their AWWA memberships in this current economy. Fewer utility representatives are attending conferences, and utilities are also cutting back on their volunteer activities. The article makes suggestions on how to communicate the benefits of AWWA membership, and discusses opportunities for reaching out to high school and college students to inspire and encourage them to pursue a career in water.
