In March 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA's) WaterSense program selected the city of Dallas, Texas, Water Utilities (DWU) to spotlight its national Fix‐a‐Leak Week event. The program is intended to remind consumers to check household plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks. Dallas has assisted low‐income residents with plumbing repairs for decades through its Minor Plumbing Repair Program (MPRP), which is designed to fix leaking faucets, hose bibs, easily accessible pipe joints, and water heaters. The city's MPRP met and exceeded all of USEPA's contest criteria. Dallas' Fix‐a‐Leak Week was a resounding success on all fronts. The city reached and exceeded its goal of wiping out the MPRP waiting list in just one week, and saved more than 2 million gallons of water in an extremely short period of time.
