In his column, AWWA Executive Director David LaFrance discusses a current dilemma facing the water industry, that of finding a perfect match between our industry's workforce needs and our employees’ skills and personal desires. Succession planning is a major driver of this dilemma, with some 30‐50% of the existing water industry employees becoming eligible for retirement in the next 10 years. LaFrance discusses methods by which AWWA hopes to attract and retain qualified new employees, such as partnering with Water Environment Federation (WEF) on the Work for Water Website.
