This article discusses the AWWA Young Professionals Committee's efforts at involving students in AWWA. It discusses a survey done of AWWA Sections to determine which sections had student committees and what activities they were providing. Results of the survey are discussed, in particular the need to develop student chapters or committees with section support. Tools and best practices should be developed based on existing section success stories. A national design competition or other type of student competition should be considered at the section level that would culminate at the association level to provide further student recognition. Using this information, the YP Committee will work with other association committees, staff, and the sections to develop a strategic plan to accomplish these goals.
