This article presents the WaterSense® program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA's) innovative voluntary market transformation program for water‐efficient products and programs. Its purpose is to help utilities confidently promote products and services that use less water and perform as well as or better than conventional models. To ensure product quality, USEPA develops rigorous efficiency and performance criteria and requires independent, third‐party testing and certification before a product can earn the WaterSense label. WaterSense‐labeled products and fixtures are discussed, along with WaterSense partnerships with landscape irrigation professionals, plumbing manufacturers, distributors and retailers, a WaterSense‐labeled certification program, building brand recognition, and helping utilities better manage capacity expansion.
