This article presents background and historical information on work completed by the Residential Fire Service Meter Task Group related to residential fire sprinkler metering. The article presents three divergent positions on the issue that include: residential fire sprinkler branch supply lines should not be metered; sprinkler branch supply lines should be metered with standard water meters; and, a new standard should be created with specifications for new special meters for residential fire sprinkler application.
