This article discusses how organizational “silos” impede the efficient completion of business processes, focusing on fulfilling a function rather than on achieving a process outcome. The paper discusses problems created by these silos and states that by focusing management efforts and employee reward systems on the performance of end‐to‐end business processes rather than on functional objectives, a utility can significantly improve its ability to achieve and sustain business performance improvements. The article lists key steps in making the change.
