This column discusses the finalization by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) of the Second Contaminant Candidate List (CCL2) that includes 51 contaminants under consideration by the USEPA for possible future regulation. The article reports that the USEPA also plans to develop future CCLs using a more robust methodology recommended by expert panels from several government agencies and councils. The article provides a list of the 51 contaminants along with a chart of the CCL process recommended by the National Drinking Water Advisory Council workgroup. Supplemental internet resources are given.
