This article discusses a new process called bioremediation that is used to neutralize pollutants or transform them into harmless chemical products. The article lists three main reasons why bioremediation has been proven to be an important remediation technology, and discusses a case study where the town of Salem, New Hampshire, used the process to clean up the site of a decommissioned wastewater treatment facility that was starting to contaminate soil and groundwater as a result of chlorinated solvents.
