Utility managers can use this report to determine cost‐effective ways to manage residuals from low‐pressure membranes. Use of low‐pressure membranes is rapidly expanding, but many utility managers and engineers do not know how to treat and dispose of the residuals. Many regulators and wastewater utility managers are also unfamiliar with these residuals' characteristics and acceptable disposal practices. This article offers methods for handling and disposing of residuals in environmentally acceptable ways and shows how the use of low‐pressure membranes can be more feasible. Some low‐pressure membrane projects have been dropped because residuals treatment and disposal have been obstacles to their acceptance. This information about membranes and residuals management can help break these obstacles so that low‐pressure membrane processes can be implemented.
