This article describes AWWA's Water Quality and Technology Division (WQTD), including its functions, activities, and products. The article discusses how the WQTD focuses on the practices and technologies used to produce the best drinking water quality in terms of both public health and aesthetic purposes. The article also explains how the WQTD is responsible for the entire technical program and activities of the annual AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference. This conference has addressed water quality issues, laboratory techniques, analytical methods, and treatment processes for the past 20 years and is regarded as the premier water quality conference in the world. The WQTD also sponsors many other specialty conferences and workshops, the most important of which include the Joint Residuals Conference, the Membrane Technology Conference, and the Inorganic Contaminants Workshop.
