This article discusses the increase in government support of research and development. Total R&D expenditures in the U.S. are expected to increase about 3.4% to nearly $302 billion in 2003. The article discusses how the September 11th attacks, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, and the accounting scandals involving major corporations have affected R&D funding.
