Alternative Filtration Technologies (AFTS) offer a number of advantages to small systems, the primary one being that they are often simpler to operate than filtration systems found in conventional water treatment plants. This first part of a two‐part article on AFTS will take a look at how AFTS are evaluated for approval and includes some tips for selecting an appropriate AFT. Next month, the second part will examine pitfalls to avoid regarding the operation and maintenance of AFTS.
