With the recent promulgation of the Long‐Term 1 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT1ESWTR) by the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), all public water systems using surface water or groundwater under the direct influence (GWUDI) of surface water should be in compliance 2005 with tougher new federal requirements to control chlorine‐resistant Cryptosporidium. This month's column discusses the essential requirements of the LT1ESWTR.
