This year, Water For People (WFP) celebrates is 10th anniversary. Established in 1991, WFP, a private, nonprofit international development organization, was founded to help impoverished people obtain safe drinking water. Since then, WFP has improved the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people by supporting approximately 400 sustainable drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in some 40 developing countries worldwide. The milestone of its 10th anniversary sees WFP shifting its focus from “bricks and mortar” construction projects to more complete program modules that include capacity building, training, and education. Its objective is to strengthen communities and professional associations so they are able to sustain and maintain projects and initiate new efforts on their own. WFP is looking at expanding its program to other countries and solidifying and expanding the organization's financial base.
