This article discusses how, if the American Water Works Association is to continue to be successful in the future, it must first recognize the trends that it faces as a result of a changing membership, and work to attract students and encourage them to pursue a career in the water field. It discusses several topics that include: how the global market is opening up; meeting the water needs of a growing world population; improving the competitiveness of the North American water industry; and, improving our volunteer organization.
