This column reports on aggressive recruiting strategies used by a company to increase its staff by 50% that include: open houses; job fairs; Internet postings; referrals from existing employees; and, a retention strategy that focuses on employee training and development. Another company instituted programs targeting female employees that included: programs to ensure women received their share of mentoring and premier assignments; promoting a better balance between work and family life for men and women; and, linking executive compensation to successful implementation of these goals.
